About a year and a half ago, when Paul Simon came and did his usual yearly ‘hey I’m Paul Simon’ talk at Berklee, a young man asked him the question ‘how do you pace your lyrics to your songs so well?’. Paul replied something to the effect of ‘Michael Jordan plays basketball. Clint Eastwood acts. I can’t explain how I do it. I just know that I’m good at it.’
My initial reaction was <look at this asshole>, but as the words steeped a bit, I realized that he was just being honest about his ability, and actually answered that question precisely as he should.
Jump ahead to modern times and here I am, once again on Adam Taylor Young’s Soundcloud. The soundcloud plays, top to bottom, like a greatest hits collection, yet no albums have been released. Adam, who will be a friend and music colleage for a lifetime, is a Michael Jordan or a Clint Eastwood. He masterfully writes pop jams. Here’s one of them.
